A place that I (Michelle) have been going to for a long time is Harry’s Restaurant in Westborough, MA. My sister and our friends were regulars here when we were in college. We’d stay until closing at 1:00 a.m. drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. Now I can’t have coffee past noon, don’t smoke, and I’m asleep by 9:00 p.m. (or earlier), but I brought Ethan here a few years ago and he liked it, so we visit a few times a year.
The interior is made up of mostly booths, stool seating at the oddly low counter, and a few two-chair tables.
Harry’s is about 50 years old. They specialize in diner food (obvi) and serve breakfast all day. One thing I like especially about Harry’s is it’s one of the few places in Mass that serves egg creams. I always get a chocolate egg cream and they’re consistently good.
Egg cream with Ethan’s lemonade:
On our most recent visit Ethan got one of the Harry’s signature dishes, the Zippy Burger (fried salami, melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion on toast).
I got fish bites, that is, small cuts of fresh haddock as fish & chips for which I subbed sweet potato fries in place of regular fries.
I haven’t had a frappe here in a while but they’re great. One could/should be a meal in itself. Ethan got a strawberry frappe that had a nice chunk of real strawberry, so big it clogged the straw!
We can easily recommend Harry’s for the food and service. I do feel bad for the guys since the men’s room is only accessible from the outside, but other than that, it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area.
